Teaching

Here are links to some of my syllabi and to various course blogs I’ve created, in case they are of use to anyone creating a similar course. These are only partial records, however, because much class material was hosted on the University of British Columbia’s learning management system, Canvas. (Since Covid struck I’ve been hosting all materials on there for ease of use by students.)

Magic and Witchcraft in the Greek and Roman Worlds

I usually do two syllabi for my courses: an initial one with core material that students need to know and then a second one with subjects chosen from a list by the students.

This blog for the course (with contributions from students, which is the best part!) has the various syllabi and class assignments.

This is the open access sourcebook I created for the class:

The syllabi and the first assignment for this course can be found on the blog. Other assignments will be uploaded soon.

The sourcebook won funding from the Dean of Arts Office, the Public Humanities Hub, and the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology at UBC, for which I and the students who contributed to and worked on it are very grateful. We are also grateful for the considerable assistance we received from Koerner Library at UBC.
