Ballads: a source book
I’m currently working on a book on the reception of classics among the Irish, Scottish and English labouring classes in the 18th and 19th centuries. To accompany this I’m taking time to learn how to encode in TEI to built a digital edition of some of the ballads referred to in the book.
I’m also working on a Hiberno-English translation of some of Cicero’s invectives that I will post one day. They probably won’t make a lot of sense to anyone who is not Irish, but that’s the fun of doing projects for yourself – it’s all about the pleasure and not the profit!
(Cicero was incredibly good at being nasty. Incredibly good. The first one will be his invective against Piso, Julius Caesar’s father in law who stood by while Cicero was exiled and his house was burned down and turned into a temple of Liberty by Clodius Pulcher, an all round incredibly unpleasant individual.
